He aha taua taupū utu, he aha kāore i te mea.
The range is unusually tight because there are only about fifteen chiropractic colleges in the country and they cost much the same. That range is median cumulative FEDERAL LOAN DEBT at completion, not a tuition sticker price and not total cost. It is what completers actually borrowed, so it excludes grants, savings, family money, employer funding and living costs — which makes it a FLOOR on what the credential costs, never a ceiling. The low and high figures are the 25th and 75th percentiles across the institutions that report a figure for this programme, so a quarter of institutions sit below the low end. College Scorecard pools two award years into each figure; the release used here is dated 10 June 2026.
Three and a half to four years of full-time doctoral study after undergraduate prerequisites, then national board examinations in four parts and a state licence.
Licences renew every one to two years by state with continuing education attached.

There is no usable count of licensed chiropractors. The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards collects licence records from the state boards, but its statistics pages are behind a bot challenge that a reader cannot get past, and its own directory is a paid member product. More importantly the profession's own examining board describes the FCLB figure as a count of LICENCES and notes that chiropractors hold them in more than one state — so even if it were retrievable, dividing employment into it would understate the share working. The figures circulating online trace to a commercial site with no date and no method. We publish no denominator here rather than one of those.

This is the cleanest outcome row in the whole federal dataset: chiropractic has its own four-digit code shared with nothing, and our sum of institution-level counts matches the Department's national figure exactly.

- Undergraduate science prerequisites, and in most states a bachelor's degree
- A place at a CCE-accredited chiropractic college
- All four parts of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners exam
Kāore i te mahi tēnei mēnā
- you would be borrowing the full amount — the debt-to-earnings ratio on this credential is the worst in this dataset, at roughly three years of gross median pay
- you are expecting employment — most chiropractors are self-employed, so the first years are building a practice, not drawing a salary
- you have not spoken to practising chiropractors about what the first three years of a practice actually pay
