Ki sa sa a se yon valè, ak sa li pa se
The federal programme code here, CIP 51.02, covers speech-language pathology together with audiology. At master's level it is overwhelmingly speech-language pathology, because audiology moved to a clinical doctorate, so the blending is mild — but it is blending. That range is median cumulative FEDERAL LOAN DEBT at completion, not a tuition sticker price and not total cost. It is what completers actually borrowed, so it excludes grants, savings, family money, employer funding and living costs — which makes it a FLOOR on what the credential costs, never a ceiling. The low and high figures are the 25th and 75th percentiles across the institutions that report a figure for this programme, so a quarter of institutions sit below the low end. College Scorecard pools two award years into each figure; the release used here is dated 10 June 2026.
Two years of full-time graduate study after a bachelor's degree, then a supervised clinical fellowship of about nine months and the Praxis examination before full licensure.
State licences renew every one to two years; ASHA certification requires 30 hours of continuing education every three years and an annual fee.
Ki kantite moun ki gen sak ki kantite moun ki travay nan jaden an
Nimewo ki pa nan figi salè a
Nan 216,272 ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists in the United States Konte nan 2025, Resansman 2010 la 183,390 travay nan travay li se pou yo — 84.8%.
Ki sa ki gen ladan kont la: People, from ASHA's year-end count of 218,646 speech-language pathologists, less the 2,374 based outside the United States. Audiologists are counted separately and are not in this number. One caveat travels with it: ASHA is a membership and certification body, not a licensing board, so this is a count of people holding its certificate rather than of people licensed by a state. The two overlap heavily — the certificate is the usual basis for state licensure — but they are not the same set, and it includes people certified and not working.
Denominatè: ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists in the United States = 216,272 (Standing count of people holding the credential, as at 31 December 2025) · ASHA, 2025 Member and Affiliate Profile, Tables 1 and 3 · View
This is one of the tighter pairings on the site, and the reason is that almost everyone who practises holds the ASHA certificate — it is the usual basis for a state licence rather than a parallel credential. The remainder is mostly people certified and not currently working, plus a smaller number practising under a state licence without maintaining ASHA certification, who push the true figure the other way.
At master's level it is overwhelmingly speech-language pathology, because audiology moved to a clinical doctorate; at bachelor's level it is a pre-professional degree that qualifies you for neither on its own, which is worth knowing before enrolling.
