Beth yw'r ffigwr cost hwn, a beth nad yw

The highest figures on this site, and still only the borrowed part. That range is median cumulative FEDERAL LOAN DEBT at completion, not a tuition sticker price and not total cost. It is what completers actually borrowed, so it excludes grants, savings, family money, employer funding and living costs — which makes it a FLOOR on what the credential costs, never a ceiling. The low and high figures are the 25th and 75th percentiles across the institutions that report a figure for this programme, so a quarter of institutions sit below the low end. College Scorecard pools two award years into each figure; the release used here is dated 10 June 2026.

Four years of dental school after a bachelor's degree, then a state or regional clinical licensing examination. Specialising adds two to six years of residency on top.

Licences renew every one to two years by state with continuing education requirements.

Faint o bobl sy'n cadw hyn

202,485 professionally active dentists in the United States — 2024, the last year in the ADA series, published 2025.

Ni fyddwn yn troi hynny'n gyfran. We hold a sound count of dentists and a sound count of employed dentists and we are not dividing one into the other, because federal employment data counts employees and most dentists are self-employed practice owners. The ratio would read as though a third of dentists were not working in dentistry, and what it would actually measure is how many of them own the practice rather than being paid by one. Mae'r ddau gyfrif yn gywir ar eu pen eu hunain, ac fe'u cyhoeddir i gyd uwchben a islaw. Byddai rhannu nhw'n creu ffigur sy'n darllen fel "cyfran y perchnogion sy'n gweithio yn y maes" a fyddai ddim yn un, felly cyhoeddwn y ddau gyfrif a gadael iddynt sefyll.

Beth mae'r cyfrif yn ei gynnwys: People, from the ADA's masterfile, and already filtered to those whose primary occupation is dentistry — private practice, dental school faculty, armed forces and federal services, state and local government, hospital staff, residents and interns. It EXCLUDES retired dentists, dentists not in practice or waiting for boards, and anyone whose main job is something else. That filtering makes it a different kind of count from most on this site: it is closer to a workforce than to a registry, which is exactly why we do not divide employment into it.

The ADA count is also filtered differently from most credential registries on this site: it already excludes retired dentists and those not in practice, so it is closer to a workforce count than to a register of everyone who ever qualified. Two counts that are each right, measuring populations that do not line up, is precisely the case where publishing the pair and refusing the percentage is the honest answer.

Beth ddigwyddodd i'r bobl a orffennodd y hyfforddiant

Pedwar mlynedd ar ôl cwblhau, o gofnodion llywodraethol

O 7,918 persons who completed Dentistry (DDS/DMD), first professional degree a oedd yn methu astudio eto 4 mlynedd yn ddiweddarach, 210 doedd ganddo ddim incwm ar y gofrestr o gwbl — 2.7%. Roedd y rhai oedd yn gweithio yn ennill canran canolig o $170,812, gyda'r hanner canol rhwng $110,187 a $239,976.

Nid yw “dim incwm ar y gofrestr” yn “di-waith”. Mae'r mesur yn dangos diffyg unrhyw gofnod o gyflog a diffyg unrhyw incwm positif o hunangyflogaeth am y flwyddyn gyfan. Ni ofynnwyd i neb a oeddent am weithio, felly mae'r cyfrif yn cynnwys pobl a adawodd y gweithlu o'u dewis nhw - yn magu plant, yn gofalu, yn teithio, yn byw ar incwm rhywun arall, yn symud i wlad arall - ynghyd â phobl a oedd am gael swydd a doedd ganddynt ddim. Nid yw neb yn cyhoeddi'r gwahanu a ni fyddwn yn meddwl amdano. Mae'n pennu faint o bobl a orffennodd y hyfforddiant hwn a oedd yn ennill dim ohono na dim o unrhyw beth arall am bedwar mlynedd, sy'n union beth na all y ffigur cyflog uchod ei ddweud i chi.

Beth mae'r cod rhaglen yn ei gynnwys: CIP 51.04 at first-professional level is the DDS and DMD. It does not include dental hygiene or dental assisting, which are CIP 51.06 and appear separately. Specialty residencies taken after the degree are also outside it.

Pwy sy' n y cohort: Mae'r rhain yn cynnwys graddedigion a dderbyniodd gymorth myfyrwyr gwladol - tua hanner graddedigion israddedig yr Unol Daleithiau, a'r hanner arall nid yw'n cael ei fesur yma. Nid yw pobl a aeth ymlaen i astudio'n bellach yn y naill golofn na'r llall. Mae'r Adran yn dileu sefydliadau gyda chohorts rhy fach i'w cyhoeddi ac yn ychwanegu sŵn ystadegol at y gweddill, felly dyma gyfanswm dros sefydliadau sy'n ddigon mawr i'w adrodd: 53 o' r rhain, yn adfer 98.6% o gyfrif cenedlaethol y Adran ei hun ar gyfer y rhaglen hon. Mae gollwng y rhaglenni adrodd lleiaf yn symud y gyfradd gan 0.0 Pwyntiau canran

A yw'n talu ei hun?

Mae'r swydd mae hyn yn ei daclo yn talu cyfraniad o $170,950. Mae'r cyfartaledd o ran cyflogaeth ar draws pob gweithgaredd yr ydym yn ei gyhoeddi yn $50,020, felly mae'r premiwm am gadw hyn yn ryw $120,930 flwyddyn cyn treth.

Darllenwch hyn fel cymhariaeth i swydd gyfartalog, nid i' ch swydd chi. Beth yw'r sylfaenlin, a beth mae'n ei adael allan

A dyma'n rhagdybio y cewch chi'r swydd. Mae pob ffigwr ad-daliad ar y safle yma yn amodol ar gael ei gyflogi i'r gwaith. Dyna'r rhagdybiaeth y mae'r cyfrif credyd-perchennog uchod yn bodoli i'w brofi, ac mae'r rhagdybiaeth y mae pob safle talu arall yn ei wneud yn ddi-baid.

Peidio â gwneud hyn os

  • you are not prepared for the largest debt on this site and the years of practice-building or buy-in that usually follow it
  • you want to be an employee — most dentists own or buy into a practice, which is a second and separate capital requirement
  • you cannot work with your hands at a millimetre of tolerance for eight hours a day
