The data stays free because it is derived from public records and locking it behind a paywall would defeat the point. What we charge for are the tools you need once you are actually earning.

Why we charge for this and not that
The figures on this site are derived from public federal records. Putting them behind a paywall would be both distasteful and self-defeating: the argument for our existence is that this information should be available to the person deciding how to spend their next six months, and a paywall puts it out of reach of exactly that person.
So the reading side stays free and is funded by advertising and disclosed paid links. What we sell instead are things that only become useful after you have already decided: tax estimation, rate calculation, invoicing, and structured access to the dataset itself.
That split matters for a reason beyond taste. Every one of those revenue lines only grows if readers actually start earning, which points our incentive in the same direction as the editorial. Selling a course would point it the opposite way, which is why we do not.
Questions about paying
Does paying change where a method ranks?+
No, and not as a matter of policy but of construction. Ranking is computed from the effective hourly rate, which is derived from federal tax and census records. There is no database field that a payment could write to, so there is nothing for money to influence. This applies to advertisers, partners and to our own products equally.
What happens when I cancel?+
Cancelling stops future billing immediately and removes your saved payment details, but your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. You are never cut off mid-month for cancelling, and nothing can charge you again once the details are cleared.
Do I need an account to read the data?+
No. Every published method, figure, failure rate and source is readable without an account, without a trial and without an email address. Accounts exist for the paid tools, not as a gate on the research.
Can I get a refund?+
Yes — the refund policy sets out the window and how to ask. If a tool did not do what this site said it would, that is our error and we would rather refund it than argue. Refund policy
Will you ever sell a course?+
No. That is the one revenue line permanently closed to us. When the teacher\u2019s income depends on you believing the method works, the incentive to overstate becomes permanent and no amount of disclosure fixes it. Refusing it is what makes everything else on this site defensible.
