Plain terms for using this site. By using it you accept them.

What this site is

WhatPays publishes research about what independent income methods pay, derived from public government records and other sources we identify. It is information, not advice.

It is not financial, tax or legal advice

This is the most important term here. Our figures describe how a population of people fared in the past. They are not a prediction of what you will earn and not a recommendation to start or avoid anything. Your circumstances, skills, location and luck all matter and none of them are in our data. Before making a financial decision, consult someone qualified who knows your situation.

Accuracy, and its limits

We work hard to be accurate and we publish our method so it can be checked. We do not guarantee that every figure is correct. Government data lags by around two years, industry codes are coarser than methods, and sources are occasionally revised. Where we are uncertain we mark the confidence on the record. If you believe a number is wrong, tell us and we will investigate and correct it in the open.

Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity under your account. Give us an accurate email address, since that is how we reach you about billing and security. We may suspend an account being used to attack the service, to scrape it at a volume that degrades it for others, or to submit fabricated evidence.

Paid plans

Prices are shown before you pay. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancelling stops future billing and clears your stored payment details, and your access continues to the end of the period already paid for. Refunds are covered separately.

Using our content

Quote us, cite us and link to us freely — that is what the research is for, and we would rather be quoted accurately than not at all. Please attribute figures to WhatPays and link to the record. Do not republish the dataset wholesale or scrape it at scale; ask us about data access instead, which exists precisely for that. The underlying government data belongs to the agencies that publish it and is not ours to license.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from decisions you make based on this site. If we are found liable despite that, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and material changes to paid plans will be notified by email before they take effect.
